he's got a very well trained dog everyone uses different methods his work but not like others work it works for the dog though. if your thinkin bout gettin a good herding dog i recommend a border collie or an australian shepherd or a mix. my australian shepherd border collie mix dog Jake is now 14 years old in amazing condition and learns quickly ive had him since i was a young kid my first dog and he is amazing at herding it came naturally to him
This guy uses voice commands! Really? I never used voice commands on my three collie dogs. You should whistles, especially when your in a field. When you use a voice command it can become gargled the farther away your dog is, but a whistle will stay nice and clear.
They have a basic idea of what to do. But they don't know certain commands they need to in order to work with you. A young border collie will often split up a herd and simply cause a mess. They need the training to learn where to move the herd, how far back to stay, when they should move (if you are trailing behind.) they're born with the outline, but they know very little of what they really need to do.
You're supposed to train them? I thought Border Collies naturally knew how to herd- when the pups were old enough we just put them out with the sheep & cows and they knew what to do immediately.
I got a border collie before I ever thought of riding horse and workin cows... seems that I picked the right pup for the trade! This was really neat, looks like something I could try.
i love to do that whit my german shepherd and my quarterhorse ^^ its my dream to work on a ranch whit horses dogs and cattle, but here in belgium there's not mucht work like that :s
