How To Train A Dog To Sit W/ Distance! (Advanced)

This is an advanced training tutorial that highlights just one of the MANY exercises that I use to develop off-leash reliability in a dog. It is a great exercise for any dog that is at an 'intermediate' level - meaning that they can SIT/STAY on-leash reliably in a variety of settings through mild distractions. Please note that although you will see me practice this off the leash near the end of the video, it is simply to demonstrate that with lots of practice, this exercise does have practical application. I do not recommend having your dog off the leash until you are 100% sure that they will Sit/Stay/Come from a distance or in a safe & enclosed area. The best approach is to practice consistently on a LONG line. For more information on how I teach 'come' & 'stay' - please watch my videos on those topics. The theory behind this method is based on the Premack principle of conditioning. I may make more tutorials on off-leash work. Let me know if this is something you want to see more of!

  3. Great exercise. Will do this one with my springer. I think its great that they get to (eventually) carry on to what they were originally aiming for. I might make the final treat a high value one.

  4. Tab289, that last part was very impressive, but it would be extremely helpful to see how you and Solea react in a situation with an aggressive dog. Say some one has an agressive snarling dog on a leash (or even off) that's provoking Solea into aggression. Would you calmly say "Solea come" like that or would you need to increase intensity with which you issue the command? I realise the aim would be to avoid the situation before it arises but I'd like to know how to deal with it, if it did arise.

  5. But the training is a form of bonding too. Bond with the dog straight away through "petting, play time, treats and even hugs" AND training. Just start with very very simple easy training and reward them well.

  6. Aww that's sweet. If you want to persuade them, We/you need to know their reasons for not wanting a dog. Ask them to tell you honestly, fully and clearly what their concerns are. Then you need to go and find ways to show them that you can eliminate these concerns. For example, if they are worried about barking, show them which breeds are genetically disposed to not bark much, and show them that you have done your research and know exactly how to train a dog not to bark etc

  7. I don't have a dog yet but I know someone who has a little monster for a dog that could use these videos haha. I stumbled across your videos while browsing and all I have to say is WOW. They are so informative and I like that you actually show us how to do what you're saying. These other so called dog experts on YouTube need to take a lesson from you. And your dog is just amazing. What a beauty she is.

Hey tab289! May I ask if its possible to train a 10-12 year old dalmation? And if so...how long do I need to spend with each trick?

  11. For those wondering how Solea responds so well to commands,my answer here is that Tab289 and Solea have a strong bond. She trusts him because he worked on this first and now she will do as he says because Of that trust. So a key principle I learned here is that before training any dog,we must first bond with it. Through petting, play time, treats and even hugs.

  12. Bullmastiffs are very strong breeds. They require a strong character personality. You can start by teaching yourself how to remain calm. When a dog sees how calm you are it will itself be calm. Then, socialize your dog by allowing it access to The parks and random places where humans and dogs gather. Teach your family to remain calm by having The dog around them and getting everyone involved in petting and giving The dog FIRM but Gentle commands. Finally, allow The dog time For exercise everyday
