How To Train Any Dog To Heel PERFECTLY!

How To Train Any Dog To Heel PERFECTLY! - training a dog

How To Train Any Dog To Heel PERFECTLY!

Training a dog to heel is a great exercise which develops several different capacities in a dog. In addition to furthering their learning ability and body awareness, it also aids in teaching them to communicate better with their human. It should be taught like any other trick or behavior, by breaking it up into small successive steps and making it a highly rewarding experience. It is normal for it to take several days and even weeks to get the kind of results demonstrated in this video. Remember to work on it consistently and always allow the dog to be successful. If they are unable to meet reward criteria, then as trainers we must lower criteria, making it easier for several sessions before making it more difficult once again. If this advice is followed, just about any dog can learn to do this. 2. Just started trying to teach my sister dog this. He avoids the book. Walking around it when I try to lure him with a treat. I have been able to get his front paws on a few times but it's a little difficult. Any tips on that? Or should I just be patient?

  12. Love this video. I'm trying it and blogging the results at peppertherottweiler.blogspot.com I did some attention work and now off to heeling. My dog didn't notice if his feet were on the object (newspaper) so I moved it up on a stool for a couple days to make it clear.

  21. Amazing!! It really works. I admire your positive way of teaching dogs. My favorite is your clicker training tutorial and the "stop puppy play biting". I teached my 9 year old Bernise Mountaindog clicker and it really works :-) Thanks a lot!!

  27. petsmart sells training treats. 200 treats for $3. But if you don't have a petsmart , i take normal treats and just break them into a bunch of tiny chunks. i've gotten 20 treats out of one whole treat.
