ReplyDeleteOh, Annie LOVED it. It kept her busy for a little while too, which was nice for ME. ;) She's just a pup (four months), so any moment of quiet is appreciated, haha.
ReplyDeleteHow did she like it?
ReplyDeleteNot quite. . we had almost a whole day left, we could have pulled off about 10 more this year, but we ran out of pumpkins!
ReplyDeleteYes!
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the most prescient songs of our era. One of my ten best of the '80s I sometimes dream I'm visiting Joni and we're drinking tea together. She's always warm and welcoming.
ReplyDeleteMuch of the pop music of the eighties warned us about the times to come; corporate ownership of the government, reduction of the middle class to manipulated, indebted serfs who have value only as sources of consumption, the funneling of money upwards to make the rich richer, etc. We heard it, we danced to it, and we didn't do anything about it.
ReplyDeleteAmazing Video!!!!
ReplyDeleteBrasil loves Joni Mitchell!
Thanx
Spyslowhand - that's my favourite lyric from this album.
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree - with a lesser artist the political messages might seem heavy handed, but she pulls off something more considered, with her lyrical dexterity, gorgeous voice and that restless quality you identify in her music.
Go Joni!
"In every culture in decline/ the watchful ones among the slaves/ know all that is genuine will be scorned and conned and cast away".
ReplyDeleteI love this whole album. Joni Mitchell took the 80's synth sound but kept her own unique kind of restlessness in her song structure in place so that at her songs and this song in particular create an interesting tension that is more thoughtful in it's landscape than a more usual kind of "angry album" or "protest album".
25+ years yet this song is still so real in todays life we have got too care for all or all shall not be care for ?
